Anticipatory Breastfeeding Guidance

Slide Laying Breastfeeding

With Anticipatory Breastfeeding Guidance, I contact you at critical times in the early weeks of breastfeeding to talk about what can be expected at each stage, and address any questions or concerns you may have.  Key benefits of Anticipatory Breastfeeding Guidance include:

  • Prevent Problems:  Mothers who get proactive support early on are much more likely to have less difficulty with latch, less pain, and have higher breastfeeding rates.  I’ll help you identify potential problems and come up with a plan to keep them from ever starting or minimize them should something come up.
  • Gain Confidence:  Scientists have found that a mother’s breastfeeding confidence is a stronger predictor of whether she meets her goals than whether she gives her baby formula.  Anticipatory Guidance give you the confidence needed to reach your breastfeeding goals.
  • Reduce Stress:  Being a new parent is stressful enough without having to worry about what is normal or not when it comes to breastfeeding.  By knowing what to expect you can relax and enjoy getting to know your baby.

Mother who’ve signed up for Anticipatory Breastfeeding Guidance find they:

  • Know when baby has finished breastfeeding and if baby’s gotten enough milk.
  • Are able to latch baby well and have less pain.
  • Are more confidence they will reach their goals.
  • Can comfortably nurse with family members present and in public.
  • Are confident in their ability to comfort a fussy baby.
