Birth Story:  Grace

JJO-7785

I hadn't had any contractions and we were talking about having to schedule an induction.  On Monday night, I began having contractions.  They never stopped, but they were erratic; 10 minutes apart, then 5 minutes apart, then 15 minutes apart.  On Tuesday at noon, I had an appointment for an ultrasound, and we also did a membrane sweep.  I was 1cm and around 80% effaced.  Contractions immediately got way more severe and were getting closer together, starting at about 15 minutes apart.  At about 7pm, they were 5 min apart and we called the hospital. The midwife said since I didn’t want medication and I was only 1 cm at noon I could wait until the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart.

We hospital about 9:30pm.  I was 5cm, which sounded super depressing.  At about 10:30pm, I said I felt water running down my leg, my water still hadn’t broken but had just began trickling out.  My husband had asked everyone to leave us alone.  At about 11:30pm, I felt something “fall” out of me.  I told my husband the baby had just come out and to go get someone.  (At the time I was serious LOL).  He ran back in with a nurse.  My bag of waters didn’t break, it just fell out.  I didn’t even know that was thing!  Someone checked me and I was 10cm and they said it was time to start pushing.  I pushed for 20 minutes and at 11:56pm Grace was born.
