7 Things To Do Before Baby Arrives

If you’re expecting a baby, doing these 7 things during pregnancy will make life easier after your bundle arrives!

  1. Freezer Meals.  Cooking with a newborn isn’t easy.  Your new baby will want to be held, rocked, or nursed around the clock.  It will be nice to have meals that are ready to go.  Once life calms down, you can make life easier by planning out your meals for the week.  Many apps and websites will also help generate a shopping list as well.

  2. Deep Clean & Organize.  When the baby is here, you’ll need to nap when the baby naps, not catch up on chores and house projects.  Now is the time to minimize clutter and mess.  Donated, toss, recycled, or boxed old or unused items.  Don’t forget to organize your cabinets and pantry too.

  3. Grocery Delivery.  Leaving the house with a newborn can be quite the process, especially while recovering from birth.  Consider having your groceries delivered until you’ve had a chance to settle in.  This can also be especially useful when your partner returns to work.  Set up everything during pregnancy, so it’s quick and easy to order groceries after baby is born.

  1. Stock Up On Essentials.  You don’t want to run out of toilet paper at the worse time.  Make sure you have lots of diapers (I recommend size 1 rather than newborn), wipes, toilet paper, paper towels, snacks, non-perishable foods, toiletries, etc.  It’s also a good idea to have paper plates and plastic flatware ready to go as you may not want to deal with dishes right away.

  2. Lots of Date Nights!  Life with a new baby isn’t the easiest on a relationship. Sleep deprivation can be very difficult and you might find yourself snapping at your partner simply because you’re tired, overwhelmed, and frustrated.  Do some pre-baby bonding to strengthen your relationship and communication with each other.

  3. Pamper Yourself!  It may be hard to get a pedicure, massage, or even a haircut once baby has arrived.  Enjoy a little pampering now with a trip to the spa or salon.  Having a short haircut can mean less time getting ready in the morning which is a bonus.  If a spa trip isn’t in the budget, you can do lots at home to pamper yourself.  Hop on Pinterest to get some great ideas and invite over a few girlfriends to make a night of it.

  4. Plan Your Postpartum Wardrobe.  You go into the hospital 9 months pregnant and leave looking about 7 month pregnant.  Some moms will be back to their pre-pregnancy size within week or months, but for some it can take longer.  While you can wear a lot of your early pregnancy clothes after baby is born, full-panel maternity pants won’t fit well after a bit.  Yoga pants and maxi skirts can be your best friend.  Some moms will even buy jeans a size or two bigger than their pre-pregnancy size to wear during the transitional time.
